Shirley Farmer is a retired School Teacher who has been interested in hybridizing for approximately 18 years. Shirley specializes in fancy edges, teeth and blue eyes. Shirley has been a past officer of the daylily society and is one of the founding members of the Midwest Daylily Hybridizers group based in Dayton, Ohio. It was nearly 18 years ago that Shirley, along with a couple other hybridizers' founded the 'Midwest hybridizers'; who have recently created the "Northern Mecca" web site. These founding folks felt that having a meeting of local hybridizers would create an atmosphere of learning and encouragement to anyone interested in these wonderful flowers. This original "meeting" has blossomed into a group of hybridizers who are currently creating some very desirable northern hardy daylilies. Along with their creative work these hybridizers have also become a close knit group that helps and encourage one another and works together in an effort to promote northern hardy daylilies. Shirley deserves many thanks for her past work and continuing efforts to promote all the aspects of hybridizing in the Ohio area. Her work will be reflected for years to come. As you can see from her photos below she is making great strides in creating beautiful daylilies.
